Wire/ Cable Technician
(warehouse based)
Summary of Role:
The Wire Technician will be responsible for carrying out and maintaining a consistent throughput of cable repairs on both power and data cables.
Responsibilities:
Essential duties and responsibilities include but not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned from time to time of which you will be advised accordingly:
Duties include:
- To identify and safely fault find issues on a range of electrical and data cable including single and three phase cabling, DMX and Ethercon.
- Undertaking electrical and mechanical repairs on a variety of cabling in a safe and professional manner.
- Termination of cut down cables to reinstate into rental stock.
- Wiring, soldering, cable stripping, assembly and termination of a range of connections both for power cables and data cables.
- Creating Wiring Looms
- To research parts and equipment required to effect repairs on cabling you have assessed.
- Communicating with the Repairs and Engineering Co-ordinator regarding any faults that cannot be resolved in-house.
- Preparing equipment to be sent to external suppliers for repair including scanning on to RT Pro jobs for tracking purposes.
- Broad testing of completed repairs (including PAT) before managing the return to stock.
- Using RT pro stock control system to track and update repair tickets keeping the system accurate in relation to world stock.
- Liaising with the repairs co-ordinator about retiring stock which is beyond economical repair.
- Work with the Repairs Inventory Technician to ensure stock repair supplies are maintained at appropriate levels.
- Share knowledge of repair processes and provide guidance of repair feasibility and complexity to stakeholders with a range of technical communication ability
- Work with appropriate line managers to ensure all operations are risk assessed and control measures are in place and being adhered to.
- Written documentation of measures taken to complete repairs and providing advice to repairs administrator if pricing is not accurate in relation to work undertaken.
Person specification
- Qualifications or previous experience in electrical repairs (including three phase) is required.
- To be able to demonstrate confidence handling a variety of cabling.
- Good knowledge of electrical and or electronic theory.
- Must be able to confidently communicate technical ideas to a diverse audience.
- Be able to build strong working relationships with a colleagues.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings desirable.
- Have a valid, clean UK driving licence and able to drive on occasion when needed the repairs vehicle.
- Familiarity with and willingness to work according to health and safety at work regulations
