Employer description: Shine is one of the biggest and leading Sports Coaching and Wraparound Care companies in the Bristol region. 

Overview: We are looking for candidates who are passionate about having a positive impact on primary school children through the medium of sports.

Our dedicated teams comprise of experienced coaches who inspire and motivate children of all abilities and ages to excel. First and foremost we want you to deliver an exciting and engaging sports session that children can't wait to come back to.

We are looking for an apprentice to work full time on their ecommerce and booking application web platform.

Salary: £20,000 per annum. 

The role: This role will be working closely with Shine’s Senior Web Developer with the aim of reaching the level of a Junior Web Developer within 18 months. However, this role is not necessarily limited to that time scale and, subject to performance, a full time follow-on role will available.

Duties:

  • Updating and maintaining codebase 
  • Writing end-to-end test specs 
  • Writing user stories and maintaining work backlog 
  • Picking up bug requests and adapting to company priorities 
  • Meeting clients and internal company members to workshop features and improvements 
  • Estimating work for clients and company 
  • Presenting work to company members

What will you be learning? As a Web Developer you will be learning to collaborate in a professional environment, employing best practices and processes as well as understanding a clients expectations day to day.You’ll gain a good understanding of the following:

  • Javascript (ECMAScript and NodeJS)
  • CSS and HTML
  • ReactJS
  • Git
  • MongoDB
  • Basic Linux CLI tooling
  • Agile practices

What we are looking for: Desired skills and experience: 

  • You will be someone with an aptitude for computers looking to follow a career in web development.
  • You should be able demonstrate an ability to produce a small project that is technically challenging. This could be a coding project but could equally be another kind of technical project, for example building something using electronics, engineering or mechanical aspects. This might be a project made in your degree, A level or spare time. 

We want to see something that demonstrates an ability to learn quickly and think creatively. In the interview, we would like to hear you talk about or give a demonstration of your chosen project for 5 mins or so.

Entry requirements:

7 GCSE's total: 

  • English GCSE grade D or above
  • Other 6 GCSE's, including Maths, to be C or above
  • You must not hold an existing qualification at the same or higher level than this apprenticeship in a similar subject

You may also have a combination of qualifications and experience which demonstrate the minimum foundation needed for the programme. In this instance you could still be considered for the programme.

If you hold international equivalents of the above qualifications, at the time of your application you must be able to provide an official document that states how your international qualifications compare to the UK qualifications.

Working week:

  • 40 hours a week, 
  • Monday to Thursday (8:30am to 5:30pm with 1 hour for lunch)
