About the Role & the Grad2Teach Programme

This Graduate Trainee Humanities Teacher role is part of the Grad2Teach salaried initial teacher training programme—a financially supported, classroom-based route into teaching.

As a trainee, you will:

  • Begin by delivering Humanities lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4 (with a focus on History, Geography, or Religious Studies, depending on your degree and expertise)
  • Progress through Grad2Teach’s structured two-phase training model
  • Work toward a PGCE with QTS, awarded by Coventry University
  • Receive a salary throughout your training—no tuition fees required
  • Benefit from expert mentoring, tailored coaching, and a curriculum aligned with the Teaching Standards and Core Content Framework
Training Structure

Phase 1:

  • Support with lesson planning and delivery
  • Work with students to develop knowledge, critical thinking, and communication skills
  • Develop classroom and behaviour management strategies

Phase 2:

  • Independently teach lessons (up to 18 hours per week)
  • Deepen subject expertise and refine teaching methods
  • Complete PGCE assignments and formal assessments

Candidate Requirements

To be eligible for this role, applicants must:

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree—ideally in History, Geography, Religious Studies, Politics, Sociology, or a related subject

  • Demonstrate resilience, adaptability, and a commitment to professional development
  • Hold (or be working towards) GCSEs in English and Maths (flexibility may be available in Phase 1)
