ESL connects the demand and supply of electrical components. As the world shifts to a more electric future, ESL helps customers procure their needs in this space by thinking and operating differently.

The company joins supply chains together in a simple and easy-to-deliver way. We operate globally offering fast deliveries and making things easy both for our customers and our suppliers, developing long-term relationships with them.

ESL is headquartered in Manchester and operates with a strong international presence. It was founded by two female entrepreneurs 17 years ago (both are still in the business), and the company has 75 amazing people with brilliant skills.

Through the use of technology, we can be a lot more innovative in our operating practices in addition to greater sophistication when it comes to data intel and management across sales, purchasing & buying, stock management, warehousing and shipping.

We want to take the next step and invest in technology and are looking for a Technical/Transformation Lead to support the COO in moving the dial by looking at the best option for technical and digital transformation across all of our operations.

Our opportunity (Technical Transformation Lead) 

We are currently undertaking a Business Architecture Review and are mapping our business requirements ready to present to the appointed candidate to advise on the best technical solution.

We also have complex third-party integrations that we need to consider, along with data migration.

Whilst we do have a great team already in place, we need someone with the experience and gravitas to drive this transformation from a technical perspective.  Someone who has been there, and worn the t-shirt for an entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment and bring the team together.

Responsibilities would include, but are not exhaustive to (we need someone to tell us what we don’t know):

      Strong technical skillset covering:

  • Complex multi-system environments including bespoke tooling
  • Ability to interpret and translate business architecture documentation and business requirements into technical needs
  • Data migrations
  • Complex external integrations
  • RFP procedures (e.g. product /needs comparison)

Technical Leadership

  • Proven ability to drive/implement new systems and technical processes
  • Responsibility to identify and mitigate risk elements
  • Management of technical resource

  Strong communication and excellent stakeholder management skills

  • Connecting directly with company leadership to champion key priorities
  • Experience of driving delivery and value for money from third party providers.
  • Ability to condense complex technical concepts into understandable content for varying audiences

The ideal candidate would demonstrate

  • A track record of deliverability – we have to deliver a fit-for-purpose (and future) solution
  • Breadth of experience of working across different systems and applications including ERPs including solution selection.
  • Experience of leading new business system implementation.
  • Technical BA experience.
  • introducing new business systems and applications such as ERP.
  • Senior levels of ownership and responsibility
  • The ability to drive change in a traditional business (but one that is open to change)

Working across end to end business – scope is across multiple departments.  Sales, stock management, supply chain and finance.

This is a great opportunity for a seasoned contractor to join on a 12-18month basis, working with a great team and a rapidly growing company to create a foundation for future growth.  We would be particularly keen to hear from anyone with experience within medium-sized businesses, perhaps in the trading, retail or manufacturing industries but are open to all candidates with the relevant deliverable experience.
