We are seeking an experienced and highly organised professional to provide senior-level support to a Director in managing a diverse portfolio of clients. The role focuses on the efficient delivery of compliance services, maintaining proactive and professional communication with clients, and ensuring workflows are well controlled and organised through the firm’s internal systems.
This position would suit someone with strong experience in personal and corporate tax, excellent deadline management skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. A proactive approach, attention to detail, and strong communication skills are essential.
Key Responsibilities
Client Compliance
Prepare and submit Self Assessment tax returns for individuals, partnerships, and sole traders
Assist with the preparation of company accounts and corporation tax returns in line with deadlines
Prepare and submit P11Ds, VAT, PAYE, and CIS registrations and returns
Monitor client compliance calendars to ensure deadlines are consistently met
Keep all client records accurate and up to date across internal systems and portals
Workflow and Organisation
Maintain oversight of active jobs and submissions using internal tracking tools
Coordinate with internal team members to support time management, diary planning, and client communication
Promptly follow up with clients for outstanding records and respond to queries to maintain workflow
Collaborate with tax, accounts, and administration teams to progress work efficiently
Provide clear summaries and handovers when tasks require review or input from others
Client Communication and Administration
Use internal systems to manage tax payment reminders, submission confirmations, and Companies House filings
Track client responses and ensure efficient follow-up
Assist in onboarding new clients and setting up appropriate systems and processes
Team and Director Support
Support the Director by maintaining structure and organisation around deadlines, communications, and priorities
Proactively highlight upcoming deadlines, risks, or workflow issues
Assist in preparing information and reports for client meetings
Act as a consistent and professional point of contact for compliance-related matters
Maintain accurate records and responsive communication to support the Director’s working style
Key Attributes and Skills
Minimum 2 years’ experience in a UK accountancy practice or tax team, with strong knowledge of Self Assessment, corporation tax, VAT compliance, and accounts preparation
Minimum: AAT qualified (or qualified by experience with strong compliance and accounts background)
Preferred: ACA, ACCA, or CTA (qualified or part-qualified)
Ability to prepare accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies
Comfortable managing a varied, deadline-driven workload
Familiarity with cloud-based accounting platforms (e.g. FreeAgent, Xero, HMRC systems)
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and document management tools
Strong organisational skills and accuracy under pressure
Clear and professional communication skills, both written and verbal
