Looking for your first move in-house?

This is a newly created role where you'll be an integral part of the finance function, supporting the Head of Tax & CFO. Your role is pivotal in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of tax filings, with a focus on VAT and Construction Industry Scheme withholding tax.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Tax Compliance Oversight: Ensure tax filings and processes are compliant, robust, and technically accurate.

  • Process and Efficiency Improvements: Review and implement process and tax efficiency savings across all business taxes.

  • Technical Review: Conduct technical reviews of VAT and CIS returns and reconciliations to ensure accuracy, addressing complex issues.

  • Tax Knowledge Maintenance: Stay updated on relevant indirect tax matters, including VAT and CIS, and provide guidance to the wider business.

  • Collaboration and Issue Resolution: Collaborate with the business and external experts to discuss and resolve tax-related issues.

  • Process Documentation and Improvement: Drive process documentation and improvements to enhance efficiency.

  • Accounting Systems Maintenance: Ensure accounting systems and processes are up to date from a tax technical perspective.

  • HMRC Filing Disclosures: Own the preparation of HMRC filing disclosures.

  • Balance Sheet Reconciliation: Maintain and reconcile tax balances held on the group's Balance Sheet on a monthly basis.

  • Supporting Finance Functions: Assist in providing technical tax training across the business and support accounting activities as needed.

  • Communication:

    • Maintain open communication across the business.
    • Display innovation by planning changes and improvements where appropriate.
    • Participate in necessary training to fulfill job duties effectively.

    Key Performance Objectives:

    • Develop and maintain a robust tax and accounting control environment.
    • Ensure all tax filings and reconciliations are accurate and up to date.
    • Release deliverables in a timely manner.
    • Provide accurate training and guidance to the business.
    • Achieve a low-risk rating from HMRC.

    Knowledge/Skills/Experience:

    • CTA qualified or equivalent with 2-3 years post-qualified experience.
    • Prior experience in an Indirect Tax role, ideally with CIS experience.
    • Proficient user of accounting systems and Excel.
    • Strong understanding of tax risk and controls.
    • Experience within the Construction or House Building sector is advantageous.
