Join our Environment and Climate Change department as a Manual Sweeper and contribute to maintaining clean streets and public areas in your local community. This role involves using a handcart and manual tools, working independently or as part of a team to ensure high standards of cleanliness.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Sweep streets, remove litter and weeds, and clear waste from public areas.
- Bag and transport waste to designated collection points.
- Empty litter and dog waste bins; report any damaged or overflowing bins.
- Clear fly-tipped waste, dead animals, needles, and other hazardous items safely.
- Carry out snow clearing and salt spreading when required.
- Report any faults, accidents, and repair needs promptly.
- Complete basic records such as timesheets and incident logs.
- Cover other cleansing duties as needed, following appropriate training.
- Use manual weed spraying and vegetation cutting tools after receiving training.
- Represent the Council positively when interacting with the public.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Ability to work alone and follow a set work schedule.
- Physically fit for outdoor, manual work in all weather conditions.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills to complete records.
- Comfortable using simple IT systems.
- Understanding of and ability to follow health and safety procedures.
- Flexibility to work on public holidays and adapt to changing schedules.
- Willingness to work within your own community and challenge stigma around the role.
- Ability to complete pesticide application training and certification.
