About the Role

Randstad is currently recruiting on behalf of our client, a leading local authority in Bristol, for an experienced Senior Residential Child Care Worker to join their team on a permanent basis. This is a fantastic opportunity to step into a leadership position, shaping the lives of children and young people in care.

In this role, you will work closely with the Registered Manager and Deputy Manager to provide consistent, trauma-informed support to children in residential settings, while also supervising and developing a team of Residential Child Care Workers.

We are also recruiting temporary support workers for similar roles in private homes and local authority placements across the region, so if you're considering agency work, we'd love to speak with you too.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day leadership to the care team, acting as a positive role model in trauma-informed and therapeutic practices.
  • Support the personal development and supervision of Residential Child Care Workers.
  • Build strong, professional relationships with young people while maintaining healthy boundaries.
  • Oversee care plans, behaviour support plans, and risk assessments, ensuring they remain up to date and effective.
  • Participate in rota planning and ensure the smooth running of shifts.
  • Support the health, safety, cleanliness, and maintenance of the residential home environment.
  • Assist in the admission, referral, and transition process for young people entering the service.
  • Engage positively with the local community and promote community inclusion for residents.
  • Manage petty cash and ensure financial resources are used appropriately in line with regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, fire safety, and internal policies.

Essential Requirements

  • NVQ Level 3 or QCF Level 4 in Caring for Children and Young People, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1 year's experience working in residential care with children and young people.
  • Proven experience leading or supervising a team within a care setting.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding, risk management, and trauma-informed practice.
  • Ability to plan rotas, complete audits, and manage care documentation.
  • A positive, resilient, and professional approach to supporting vulnerable young people.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience managing residential staff teams.
  • Knowledge of health and safety compliance, COSHH, and fire safety in residential care.
  • Budgetary control and petty cash management.
