About the role

As our projects continue to grow, we are looking for talented Support Engineers to join our thriving team. You'll work collaboratively within an established team, to support and maintain customer solutions to a high standard. The systems we develop and support - and the technologies used to develop them - are varied. You will bring good knowledge & experience of services and technologies that include APIs, using a mixture of Java, PostgreSQL databases (including PostGIS spatial extensions) and Azure Cloud Services. An understanding of cloud technology, experience around deployment, data updates, scaling and monitoring services is desired.

Your role will include daily contact with software engineers, stakeholders, and team members. You will look to continuously improve the support capability in all aspects of the support lifecycle through coaching, mentoring and knowledge sharing. You will participate in daily team stand-ups and attend project sprint reviews. You will be required to support, maintain, patch, and deploy existing and new services, while interpreting system monitoring logs and outputs, troubleshooting, and providing an escalation route for the successful resolution of operational incidents and problems.

There will be a requirement to provide 2nd Line support for existing live systems out of hours. Therefore, the abilities to learn quickly and think creatively is essential.

The successful candidates will need to go through SC clearance due to the nature of the work being undertaken.

What we look forYou will need to demonstrate your track record against the following essential criteria:

  • Ability to provide technical consultancy to enable the business to successfully use IT systems

  • Continually identify and implement support process improvements.

  • Proactively safeguard services by continually assessing and improving monitoring, resilience, and security

  • Investigating the root cause of failures to understand why they have occurred and propose/enact solutions, and work with external suppliers if/where required

  • Provide consultancy to Project Teams on the performance, configuration, and functionality of existing systems, and ensure that new or updated systems will be effectively supported

  • Mentor, teach and support the technical knowledge and skills of the team

Location

We embrace a hybrid working model at OS and understand there is no one size fits all in relation to how we work. We have a fantastic HQ in Southampton, Hampshire where you will be required to spend 2 days a month with the remaining time being a personal choice as to whether you work from home, one of our regional offices or spend more time at OSHQ.
