Islington Council is seeking an experienced Street Works Inspector to join our Highways team on a contract basis. This role plays a vital part in ensuring that all street works across the borough are carried out to the highest standards, in line with legislation, regulations, and local requirements.

• Monitor and inspect street works to ensure compliance with the New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA) and other relevant legislation.

• Carry out site inspections to assess safety, quality of reinstatement, and adherence to agreed permits and conditions.

• Identify, record, and report any non-compliance or defects, issuing appropriate notices where required.

• Liaise with utility companies, contractors, and internal teams to resolve issues promptly.

• Maintain accurate records of inspections and outcomes.

• Support the delivery of safe, efficient, and well-managed works across the public highway.

• Proven experience as a Street Works Inspector, Highways Inspector, or similar role within local authority or utilities.

• Strong knowledge of NRSWA legislation and related codes of practice.

• NRSWA Supervisor accreditation (units relevant to inspections).

• Excellent communication and negotiation skills.

• Ability to work independently and manage a busy inspection schedule.

• £34 per hour (umbrella)

• 3+ month contract, with potential for extension

• 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday
