Speech and Language Therapist – SEMH / SEND – SW LondonSalary: Up to £42,000Location: South West LondonFull-time, PermanentSector: Education / Therapeutic ServicesA specialist education setting in South West London is looking for a qualified and enthusiastic Speech and Language Therapist to join their dedicated, multi-disciplinary team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a therapeutic, trauma-informed school environment supporting pupils with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs and a range of communication difficulties, often linked with associated SEND and developmental trauma.This role is ideal for a passionate SLT who is confident working independently, collaborating with teachers and other professionals, and delivering impactful intervention to children with complex profiles.Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver individual and group speech and language therapy sessions tailored to pupils’ needs and EHCP targets.
  • Assess pupils on entry and throughout their time at school, producing clear and informative reports for parents, carers, and professionals.
  • Support and advise staff on communication strategies and embed SaLT approaches across the curriculum.
  • Develop and implement speech, language and communication plans in collaboration with teaching staff and other therapists.
  • Provide in-class support to model and reinforce therapeutic communication techniques.
  • Monitor, evaluate and report on pupils’ progress using standardised and non-standardised assessment tools.
  • Liaise with families and external professionals (e.g. CAMHS, social care) to ensure consistent support across settings.
  • Offer training and coaching for school staff on communication, language development and related strategies.
  • Support pupils during transitions or reintegration phases, including developing social stories, visual supports, and communication aids.
  • Maintain up-to-date and confidential records in line with professional and statutory guidelines.
Person Specification:Essential:
  • Recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy and registration with HCPC and RCSLT.
  • Experience working with children and young people with SEMH, ASD, ADHD, and other SEND.
  • Experience in an educational or therapeutic school setting.
  • Strong understanding of developmental language disorders, communication difficulties and the impact of trauma on language acquisition.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with teaching and therapeutic teams.
  • Ability to create and deliver engaging therapy programmes for a range of communication needs.
  • Confident in writing reports and managing caseloads effectively.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and child protection responsibilities.
  • Flexible, resilient, and proactive approach.
Desirable:
  • Training in Makaton, PECS, or other augmentative communication systems.
  • Additional qualifications or CPD in SEMH or trauma-informed practice.
