Freelance Software Developer

On-site | ?? 3-month contract (extendable) | Outside IR35

Day Rate: £400 per day

We're supporting a business-critical initiative to document a full end-to-end software development process currently owned by a single developer working across the full stack and embedded systems. To mitigate delivery and knowledge risks, our client is looking for a software developer, to work as part of a technical solutions team to focus on documenting technical process. You would be comfortable as a software developer working on elements of a role that involved technical writing.

You would have a strong software engineering / development background, and the ability to work on technical documentation. This role requires a developer mindset and the ability to "join the dots" between complex systems.

Role Overview

• Collaborate closely with the existing lead developer to understand and document the current end-to-end tech stack and workflows

• Produce detailed, developer-level technical documentation that can be handed off internally or to future hires

• Map out the full process behind code delivery to embedded hardware and screen-based devices

• Ensure no single points of failure remain from a knowledge retention perspective

• Initial focus on documentation, but software development as the role evolves.

Key Requirements

• Proven background as a software engineer or developer

• Strong, demonstrable experience in technical writing and documentation for engineering processes

• Comfortable working independently to investigate and document systems

• Familiarity with relevant technologies: C#, Node.js, Python, GitHub

• Able to be on-site for all working days (location Central London, near to Oxford Circus)

• Able to start within 2 weeks

• Happy to commit full-time (5 days/week) - potential for fractional ramp-up

Contract Details

• 3-month contract to start, with strong potential for extension

• Outside IR35 - client has a compliant process in place

• Single-stage interview via Teams
