Role: Smart Building Controls Engineer

Location: London, Field Based covering Southeast England

Salary: £38,700 – 58,100 /car allowance, overtime opportunities, and performance-related bonus as well as 34 days holiday and further fantastic benefits.

Role Overview:

As a Smart Buildings Controls Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of advanced building automation systems. Your role will involve ensuring that buildings are equipped with the latest technology to optimize energy efficiency, security, and overall operational performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • System Design and Implementation:
    • Develop and implement control system strategies for HVAC, lighting, and other building systems.
    • Design control system schematics and prepare specifications for smart building technologies.
    • Program and configure building management systems (BMS) and related equipment.
  • Installation and Commissioning:
    • Oversee the installation and commissioning of control systems in new and existing buildings.
    • Coordinate with subcontractors and ensure compliance with design specifications and standards.
    • Conduct site inspections and system testing to verify proper operation and functionality.
  • Maintenance and Support:
    • Provide ongoing technical support and maintenance for installed systems.
    • Diagnose and resolve issues with control systems and equipment.
    • Perform regular system updates and ensure all software and firmware are up to date.
  • Client Interaction:
    • Collaborate with clients to understand their needs and provide tailored solutions.
    • Offer training and support to building operators and facility managers.
    • Maintain strong customer relationships and ensure client satisfaction.
  • Compliance and Safety:
    • Ensure all work complies with relevant health and safety standards.
    • Keep abreast of industry standards and regulatory requirements to ensure compliance.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Experience:
    • Proven experience in building automation and control systems.
    • Familiarity with HVAC systems, lighting controls, and energy management systems.
    • Experience with BMS platforms such as Trend, Tridium, Schneider,  Siemens, or Johnson Controls.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in control system programming and configuration.
    • Strong understanding of networking and communication protocols used in building automation (e.g., BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks).
    • Knowledge of relevant software and tools for system design and diagnostics.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
