The Role
The Shift Engineer plays a key role in maintaining the building systems and infrastructure of the hotel, ensuring all equipment and services operate safely, efficiently, and in line with brand standards. The role involves hands-on repairs, inspections, inventory control, and providing a high standard of support to guests and departments across the property.
Work Hour and Schedule
- 40 hours per week, 5 days per week
- 8-hour shift
- Work on a scheduled shift rota, including availability on weekends, evenings, and public holidays
Brief Responsibilities
- Assist the Chief Engineer and Maintenance Manager in ensuring all building services and hotel systems are kept in good working order.
- Carry out routine maintenance tasks, including small plumbing and electrical repairs (e.g. bulb changes, plug replacements, fixture installations).
- Undertake repairs and servicing of heating and air-conditioning systems and assist in the replacement or installation of equipment as needed.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests, ensuring all issues are reported and resolved according to standard procedures.
- Conduct routine inspections of equipment and designated areas, reporting issues and taking preventative measures where necessary.
- Monitor and manage workload efficiently, supporting cost control through smart forecasting and resource planning.
- Receive, store, and issue engineering supplies in line with hotel procedures, ensuring accurate inventory control.
- Maintain professional conduct at all times, delivering courteous service and prompt attention to guest maintenance concerns.
- Perform any related duties and special projects as required.
