Senior Probation Officer - Red Snapper Group : Job Details

Red Snapper Recruitment is currently recruiting on behalf of the Probation Service for an experienced Senior Probation Officer (SPO) to join the team at Southwark PDU. This is a critical operational leadership role, requiring a minimum of 4 days per week on-site presence, providing direct supervision and support to front line probation staff.The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring the effective management of high-risk cases, staff development, and quality assurance of service delivery.

Location: Southwark PDU, 223/227 Borough High Street, Greater London, SE1 1JDContract: Temporary (Minimum 3 Months - Possibility of Extension)Hours: Full Time, 37 Hours per Week, at least 4 days a week on sitePay Rate: £25.53 per hour (PAYE) | £33.61 per hour (Umbrella)

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide line management and professional supervision to Probation Officers, PSOs, and support staff.
• Oversee risk management for complex and high-risk cases, including MAPPA and recall decisions.
• Ensure compliance with national standards, safeguarding policies, and public protection procedures.
• Drive performance and quality assurance, including the review of reports and assessments.
• Chair risk meetings and contribute to inter-agency work across the criminal justice and safeguarding sectors.
• Support the development of staff, including NQOs, PSOs, and PQiP trainees.
• Act as Duty Manager where required and respond to operational challenges effectively.

Essential Requirements:

• Qualified Probation Officer with previous experience in a Senior Probation Officer or equivalent leadership role.
• Sound knowledge of risk assessment tools (e.g., OASys) and offender management frameworks.
• Proven ability to manage performance and quality standards within a busy operational setting.
• Strong understanding of safeguarding, MAPPA, and public protection protocols.
