The Greater London Authority are seeking a Senior Policy Officer to join their Communities and Social Policy Unit on a 2-month interim basis. This role offers a unique opportunity to address structural inequalities and enhance civic participation across London. You will be instrumental in developing and delivering the Equalities team's portfolio, focusing on reducing racial inequality and supporting the Mayor of London’s initiatives.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Scope, develop, and deliver projects related to racial equality and other policy areas, ensuring alignment with Mayoral and partnership priorities.
  • Manage programme implementation, including overseeing externally commissioned projects and contracts.
  • Provide expert advice and produce detailed reports and briefings for the Mayor and advisors on emerging policy issues and developments.
  • Collaborate with teams within the GLA and the wider GLA Group to integrate relevant issues into broader policies and projects.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders from various sectors to inform policy development and delivery.
  • Stay updated on legislative and policy changes related to social policy issues, anticipating emerging issues and innovations.
  • Support communications efforts, including presenting at seminars, managing social media outputs, and preparing press releases.
  • Contribute to corporate performance reporting, manage resources effectively, and uphold the Authority’s ethical standards.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Expert knowledge and experience in social policy, particularly within a London context.
  • Proven track record in project management, delivering results on target and within budget.
  • Strong understanding of policy and programme development in a complex political environment.
  • Experience in event planning, partnership development, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Excellent knowledge of key stakeholders and relationships crucial to policy development in London.
  • Experience in community engagement and familiarity with LGBTQ+ issues, as this role includes managing the LGBTQ+ forum.
