About the RoleA new opportunity has opened up for an Senior Pensions Administrator to join a growing pensions consultancy based in Bristol. This is a full-time, permanent hybrid role suited to someone with strong knowledge of Defined Benefit (DB) schemes, who is confident handling complex casework and mentoring junior colleagues.
You'll be joining a supportive, fast-paced team environment focused on delivering high-quality administration services to a diverse client base. The role offers genuine development opportunities, strong internal support, and exposure to a range of pension scheme types and technical challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Process and check a variety of member cases across DB pension schemes including leavers, retirements, deaths, transfers in/out, and final salary benefits
- Perform manual benefit calculations and oversee quality control of more junior team members' work
- Liaise directly with clients, scheme members, and third parties via phone and email
- Handle complex pensions queries and provide accurate, compliant responses
- Support the management of monthly and annual scheme events and processes
- Monitor performance, SLAs, and workflow within the team; flag and address any issues
- Contribute to the development of scheme-specific documentation and internal procedures
- Participate in client meetings where appropriate
- Coach, mentor, and support junior colleagues, sharing knowledge and best practice
- Contribute to ad hoc projects and support process improvement initiatives
- Keep up to date with changes in pensions legislation and provide technical guidance internally
Candidate Requirements
Essential
- Solid experience in DB pensions administration, including end-to-end case handling
- Strong understanding of UK pensions legislation and regulatory requirements
- Confident performing and checking manual calculations
- High attention to detail and strong organisational skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Excellent communication skills and a proactive, collaborative working style
- Comfortable working to deadlines and managing multiple priorities
Desirable
- Experience supporting or mentoring junior team members
- Familiarity with pensions admin platforms and CRM tools
- Progress toward a relevant professional qualification (e.g. PMI)
