Role OverviewWe are looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join the engineering team and take a leading role in the design and development of structural bearings, bespoke mechanical assemblies, and large-scale structural components. The position will involve overseeing complex design work, carrying out detailed hand calculations and modelling, mentoring junior engineers, and ensuring the delivery of safe, efficient, and practical solutions.
Key ResponsibilitiesLead the design and development of structural bearings and bespoke mechanical assemblies from concept to installation
Perform and review detailed hand calculations (stress analysis, load assessments, welded/bolted joint design, etc.) to validate design integrity
Apply FEA techniques and design principles such as Design for Manufacture, Design for Assembly, and concurrent engineering
Ensure designs meet relevant British and international standards, specifications, and project requirements
Support the full product lifecycle (PLM), including concept development, formal submissions, manufacture, installation, and service
Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers and CAD technicians
Liaise with internal teams (fabrication, project management, installation) to ensure designs are practical, cost-effective, and manufacturable
Provide technical support to clients and stakeholders, including the rapid evaluation of problems and the preparation of solutions
Ensure compliance with company quality, safety, and environmental standards across all projects.
Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering.
Extensive experience in mechanical and/or structural design engineering.
Strong expertise in manual hand calculations for structural/mechanical components.
Experience producing detailed manufacturing drawings and interpreting complex engineering drawings
Knowledge of welding principles, fabrication processes, materials, and tolerancing
Familiarity with BS, EN, and ISO design standards
Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills
Experience within infrastructure or construction-related engineering projects.
Knowledge of Mathcad and/or FEA tools (e.g., ANSYS, SolidWorks Simulation).
Understanding of civil/structural environments.
