We work closely with leading law firms and alternative legal service providers to secure the best commercial and strategic outcomes for the bank We are currently seeking an experienced individual to join this team in the role of Senior Legal Counsel in the Corporate Banking Legal Advisory Team.The Senior Legal Counsel will support regional relationship teams in the Large Corporate and International Subsidiary Banking customer segments of the HSBC UK's Commercial Banking Business. In this role, you will:

  • Provide legal advice, guidance and support in connection with banking products, in particular the provision of lending products, credit and transactions and taking security.
  • Support with general day-to-day transactional, and other customer-facing, legal enquiries and to supervise others in doing the same.
  • Support the Head of Team with the provision of legal advice and legal risk management controls and initiatives.
  • Build relationships with stakeholders overseeing the legal support provided across UK CMB in relation to the business areas supported by the job holder; and
  • Identify, formulate, co-ordinate and communicate policies, procedures and controls to ensure that the Group's exposure to legal risk in the Commercial Banking business is effectively managed.
To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
  • UK qualified Solicitor with extensive PQE and relevant sector experience gained either within a financial institution or top tier private practice. With excellent knowledge of LMA template loan documentation.
  • Experience of a broad range of lending and security products, documents and structures, including various types of borrowers and advising on projects and have a proven track record of delivering significant change, which improves business effectiveness in sustainable ways.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills, with experience of adapting your style and approach to the audience and message to be delivered.
  • Ability to think laterally and offer solutions to business problems; with a track record of making complex business decisions with authority, even in times of ambiguity, considering the potential long-term risks and implications.
  • Ability to prioritise and work directly with the Commercial Banking business, autonomously building and managing the team's relationships with senior stakeholders.
