About Our Client

Global Legal Action Network (GLAN) are a not-for-profit organisation, who take legal action on a global scale. They identify and pursue innovative legal action across borders, that tackle powerful actors and systems involved with human rights violations and environmental harms. GLAN provides the necessary platform to explore and develop legal strategies by combining legal and investigatory expertise. Their actions address the most pressing instances of human rights concern and fall within the following themes: War and occupation; finance, trade and supply chains; environmental and climate change; and migration and border violence.

Job Description

It is essential that applicants have experience as a practitioner in civil litigation, including judicial review. It is desirable if applicants also have expertise in Anti-Money Laundering and Proceeds of Crime law in the UK. Key responsibilities will include:

  • You will be responsible for the progression of existing case work through the gathering and analysing of evidence, legal research and analysis, legal drafting, liaising with legal counsel and engagement with affected communities.

  • As part of the Senior Management Team, you will be leading on and implementing GLAN's strategic plans and related operational work.

  • Engage in high-level legal research and analysis.

  • Represent the organisation in legal proceedings.

  • Coordinate with external legal consultants and partners.

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legal and ethical standards.

  • Provide expert legal advice and guidance to the organisation.

  • Contribute to the development of the organisation's legal policies and procedures.

  • Leadership, management and coaching of a team of lawyers.

  • Developing and leading new legal interventions.

  • Work with the internal communications team to carry out case-related communications and advocacy work, including engagement with partner organisations.

The Successful Applicant

The successful candidate will report to GLAN's Director and will work remotely, with the occasional need to attend in-person meetings in London and Galway, as well as travel internationally.

The following skills/experience are essential:

  • A UK qualified Solicitor or barrister, with 5+ years post qualification experience.

  • Extensive Civil Litigation experience, including judicial review.

  • Experience in the areas of Anti-Money Laundering and/or Proceeds of Crime law.

  • Experience working on criminal investigations or in complex case building.

  • Track record in human rights practice and advocacy.

  • Experience in leading a team of legal professionals.

  • A deep understanding and knowledge of global legal issues.

  • Excellent legal research and analysis skills.

  • Strong advocacy and representation abilities.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
