Senior Law Costs Draftsperson - HARKAYE CORE TALENT LIMITED : Job Details

An internationally active, fast-growing law firm is seeking a highly experienced Senior Costs Draftsperson / Costs Lawyer to join its in-house costs team during an exciting period of expansion.

This is a pivotal role supporting complex, high-value litigations across multiple jurisdictions. You will take ownership of cost-related matters, ensuring cost efficiency and maximising recovery, while working closely with internal legal and commercial teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Draft and negotiate bills of costs, Precedent H budgets, statements/schedules of costs.
• Provide expert advice to senior litigation teams on cost-related matters.
• Analyse and review retainers, funding agreements, and ATE insurance policies.
• Handle inter partes correspondence and draft cost-related applications/orders.
• Support cost management through disbursement tracking, settlement processes, and internal budgeting.
• Prepare internal cost estimates and contribute to strategic cost planning.
• Assist with Security for Costs and Funding Disclosure applications.
• Mentor junior members of the cost team.

Skills & Experience Required

Essential:

• Proven experience as a Senior Costs Draftsperson, Costs Lawyer, or Legal Costs Specialist.
• Expertise in cost litigation and negotiation, including inter partes work.
• Excellent understanding of the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) and relevant case law.
• Ability to interpret and analyse legal funding arrangements.
• Proficient in Excel, Outlook, and cost management tools.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Numerate, detail-oriented, and deadline-focused.

Desirable:

• Experience with group litigation costs.
• Familiarity with litigation funding structures and cost reporting.
• Prior experience instructing counsel and liaising with clerks.
• Understanding of cost issues across the litigation lifecycle (pre-action to trial).
