We have a fantastic opportunity to join SNG (Sovereign Network Group) as a Senior Fixed Asset Accountant. You'll be based from our head office in Basingstoke, combining office and home working to ensure a positive work/life balance. There may be some travel to our Wembley office if required.

What you'll be doing

The fixed asset team are responsible for SNG’s fixed asset register for housing, investment and other fixed assets (c.£7bn). Reporting into the Fixed Asset & Capital Accounting Manager, and working alongside our Fixed Asset Accountants, you'll lead the effective delivery of fixed asset processes to ensure timely and accurate monthly reporting. You’ll play a leading role with the ongoing administration of the fixed asset register, ensuring new additions, disposals and other updates are correctly accounted for and reconciled in line with SNG’s accounting policies.

You'll also provide input into SNG's capitalisation policy, working with business owners and finance business partners to ensure SNG remains compliant with changes to FRS102, housing SORP requirements and industry best practices. Responsibilities include:

  • Acting as the key subject matter expert in improving business processes, ensuring the accounting controls for fixed assets are maintained
  • Ensuring adoption of aligned capital policies and procedures across all financial transactions and simplifying transition to a single way of working across SNG for Fixed Assets
  • Providing regular analysis and monthly reporting and commentary for the SNG Group of actual results, including the recalculation of the annual forecast/budget for depreciation and amortisation
  • Responsible for accurate and timely recording of all fixed assets using the fixed asset and finance systems, complying with legislation and accounting policies including component accounting
  • Participating in the production of annual statutory accounts for all SNG companies, liaising with external auditors working to agreed project deadlines
  • Initiating and undertaking fixed assets projects and other tasks seeking to improve fixed asset processes, enhancing efficiency, service delivery and financial controls
  • Facilitating the completion of all monthly balance sheet reconciliations coordinating with other members of the financial accounting team to ensure reconciliations are completed on time and documented effectively

What we need from you

You'll be a Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with demonstrable experience in a similar role within fixed asset accounting. You'll need experience from within the Housing or Property sectors, or from within a large commercial organisation with a comprehensive fixed asset register. You’ll also need:

  • Strong, clear working knowledge of processes and controls surrounding fixed assets
  • Detailed knowledge of relevant legislation and accounting standards relating to fixed assets (e.g. Housing SORP, FRS102)
  • Strong analytical skills, with experience drawing key financial insights
  • To be highly numerate with excellent attention to detail
  • Good communication skills, with the ability to translate complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders
  • Demonstrable stakeholder management skills
  • Strong IT skills, including MS Excel
  • A good understanding of relevant legislation and accounting principles for Housing Associations is desirable but not essential

Any experience with Workday, Agresso /SUN general ledger, Asset 4000 fixed asset register or similar would be advantageous though training will be provided
