Job Title: Senior Financial Controller

Location: Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, ST5

Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time (Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm, 37.5 hours per week)

Salary: Up to £85,000

Overview

Our client, a forward-thinking and sustainability-driven organisation within the renewable energy sector, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Financial Controller to lead the financial operations of their UK head office.

This is a pivotal leadership role reporting directly to the Group Finance Director, responsible for financial management, control, analysis, and strategic reporting to the senior leadership team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare timely and accurate financial reports (P&L, balance sheets, cash flow).
  • Ensure full compliance with tax regulations, statutory requirements, and accounting standards.
  • Lead annual budgeting and forecasting cycles, tracking performance and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Oversee and optimise cash flow, working capital, and financial sustainability.
  • Establish and maintain robust financial control systems and processes.
  • Carry out regular financial analysis, providing data-driven insights to management.
  • Conduct internal audits to assess controls and implement improvements.
  • Manage and develop a finance team, fostering a high-performance culture.
  • Partner with department heads to ensure financial targets and budgets are met.

Candidate Requirements

  • Fully qualified (ACCA, CIMA, ACA, CIPFA) or degree in finance/accounting.
  • 5+ years' senior finance experience, with a minimum of 3 years as a Financial Controller (distribution sector experience preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of UK GAAP, tax law, and financial regulations.
  • Skilled in budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling, and payroll processes.
  • Proficient in ERP and financial software (Xero, Oracle, SAP, etc.).
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and experience managing finance teams.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Audit firm experience desirable, though not essential.
