Role: Senior Civils Estimator
Salary: £65-80k + bonus + car (or car allowance)
Location: East Midlands
Hybrid: c2 days pw in office
Introduction
Our client is seeking a Senior Civils Estimator to play a pivotal role in shaping and winning major civil infrastructure projects across the UK. You'll take the lead on preparing competitive, high-quality bids-working with project, commercial, and delivery teams to ensure every submission is commercially robust, technically accurate, and aligned with client expectations. Job Responsibilities
- Lead the preparation of detailed cost estimates for highways, utilities, and transport projects.
- Analyse tender documents and specifications to build accurate and competitive proposals.
- Develop cost breakdowns across labour, plant, materials, subcontractors, and overheads.
- Build strong relationships with suppliers and subcontractors to secure the best value.
- Spot risks, opportunities, and value engineering solutions that strengthen bids.
- Work closely with bid and project teams to refine strategies and narratives.
- Ensure all submissions meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance.
- Present bids to senior leadership and contribute to key decision-making.
- Support, mentor, and develop junior estimators, helping to grow team capability.
Requirements
- Significant experience in civils estimating, ideally within highways, infrastructure, or utilities.
- Strong technical knowledge of civil works, from earthworks and drainage to surfacing and utilities
- Skilled with estimating software and digital take-off tools.
- Exceptional numerical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Confident communicator and collaborator with strong negotiation skills.
- Proven ability to deliver competitive tenders for major clients.
- Understanding of UK health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- A proactive leader, able to mentor and inspire junior staff.
