The Opportunity

QBE Europe is looking for a Senior ESG Reporting Manager to join a well-established financial reporting team in our London or Leeds office. We are looking for an individual with an interest and background in Environmental, Social and Governance (“ESG”) matters, who can help develop and deliver our ESG reporting agenda. As a key part of the team implementing QBE’s sustainability strategy, this role will drive the ESG external reporting agenda, leading the development and implementation of external reporting and risk measures and disclosures, helping QBE meet its statutory and regulatory sustainability reporting obligations.

As a self-starter, and natural networker and communicator, you will work collaboratively across the organisation to develop and implement sustainability reporting for QBE, working alongside several teams within FAL (Finance, Actuarial & Legal).

Your New Role

As part of the Finance Function, reporting to Head of Financial Reporting, you will be required to develop QBE’s ESG external reporting agenda by:

  • Understanding and contributing to QBE’s Sustainability Strategy, assuming responsibilities for the developing ESG reporting in support of this.
  • Translating UK and European ESG reporting developments into a QBE reporting plan, and then lead its implementation.
  • Understanding and developing QBE’s response to sustainability reporting standards and developments, most notably TCFD/CFD, CSRD ESRSs, IFRS S1 & S2, along with PCAF, NZIA, and Climate Wise; developing disclosures complying with requirements.
  • Working with key functions such as underwriting, operations, risk, and investments to help develop methodologies and processes to generate information to support external sustainability reporting.
  • Support the data gathering process, providing oversight of data providers and recommend additional data sources with a view to bring non-financial reporting on a par with wider financial reporting processes.
  • Act as the go to person in relation to ESG Reporting and liaise with the Head Office on ESG.
  • Develop qualitative and quantitative monitoring and reporting (including KPIs) to embed ESG Reporting in Underwriting and Investment in line with PCAF and NZIA net zero protocol.
  • Support on climate risks and opportunities assessment, development and embedding across QBE.
  • Assist in any Audit, Compliance, and Regulatory assessments.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of the QBE process, trends, development and themes researched and documented from an ESG Reporting perspective.

About You

For this role there are some important qualifications and experience we need you to have. Theseinclude:

  • A qualified accountant with a minimum of 10 years PQE
  • A firm understanding of industry standards and regulatory developments
  • Experience in implementing reporting change
  • A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in the sustainability industry with a focus on understanding and developing processes to help comply with sustainability standards
  • Experience in sustainability strategy, policy and framework rollout.
  • A team player who is genuinely passionate about creating an impact in the sustainability space
  • As a self-starter, and natural networker and communicator,
  • Methodical and structured in your work to drive and project manage the journey;
  • Analytical, enjoy problem solving and can explain complex data in simple terms;
  • Strong critical thinking and demonstrated ability to manage complexity and ambiguity in a fast pace environment
  • A strategic mindset with an eye for commercial development and the ability to credibly opine on sustainability frameworks
