Our Public Health Commissioning team is looking for a Senior Commissioning Officer to join our team and help shape the future of Public Health services.

About the Role:

This is a twelve-month secondment opportunity/ fixed term role for someone looking to lead a high-impact project. Reporting to the Head of Public Health Commissioning, you’ll play a central role informing the future commissioning of public health services in Southwark.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and implementing commissioning plans for public health services
  • Translating commissioning intentions set out in the divisions business and partnership plans.
  • Leading on specific areas of commissioning for public health including sexual and  reproductive  health  services,  health  visiting  and  school nursing services.
  • Working with  a range  of partners  across the  statutory,  private  and voluntary sectors, including the NHS
  • Producing clear, evidence-based reports to inform future commissioning
  • Quality assurance and contract monitoring of services
  • Supporting general commissioning and project delivery tasks

This is a 12 month fixed term/secondment role.

About You:

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has experience of commissioning public health or other health related services
  • Has experience of using project management skills and knowledge of public health methodology to develop, implement and assess policies, programmes and strategies to improve health and wellbeing and/or address health inequalities.
  • Can work collaboratively with partners across health, council services, and the voluntary sector
  • Are confident writing reports and presenting findings to influence decision-making
  • Has experience of undertaking evaluations to effectively measure the outcome and benefit of public health interventions.

You’ll need to be assertive yet personable, confident managing stakeholders, and passionate about improving outcomes for residents.

About the Team:

You’ll join Southwark’s Public Health Commissioning team, part of the Integrated Commissioning division. We oversee the full commissioning cycle of key public health services, including:

  • Sexual and reproductive health
  • Drug and alcohol treatment
  • Public health 0–19 services (e.g. health visiting, school nursing)
