Contract Type: Full-time, PermanentSalary: £34,398 – £52,490 (M1 – UPS3 Fringe) Plus £5,000 Welcome Bonus for Qualified TeachersHours: 40 hours per week

A brand-new specialist secondary school for students aged 11–16 with social communication, emotional regulation, and sensory processing needs (often linked to Autism) is opening in September 2025. The school will offer a broad, engaging curriculum aligned with the national framework, tailored to individual needs and interests. With small class sizes, high levels of classroom support, and a dedicated multi-disciplinary team, the aim is to provide every student with the opportunity to thrive.

We are seeking an experienced SENDCo to play a key role in shaping the success of this new school. This is an exciting opportunity to join from the very beginning, working closely with the Head of School on leadership, curriculum development, assessment, careers, and enrichment. The role will primarily be based at the main site, with occasional work at a nearby satellite location.

Key Responsibilities

  • Promote best practice and contribute to the school’s ethos through CPD and staff development.
  • Work with leadership to ensure a high-quality, well-resourced, and differentiated curriculum.
  • Act as Deputy Exam Officer, ensuring compliance with JCQ requirements.
  • Lead on post-16 transition planning and meaningful destinations for students.
  • Oversee Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance across KS3–4.
  • Ensure statutory responsibilities are met in line with EHCPs and SEND assessments.
  • Coordinate provision, staffing, and resources for SEND support.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, staff, external agencies, and local authorities.
  • Advise on strategic development of SEN policy and provision.
  • Prepare reports and lead annual reviews or case conferences.

Essential Qualifications

  • QTS or QTLS

Desirable:

  • Specialist SEND training (e.g., Autism, Dyslexia)
  • Leadership/management qualification
  • NPQSL/H/SENDCo or willingness to achieve within 2 years

Essential Experience

  • Proven track record of effective teaching within relevant key stages or SEND settings.
  • Experience translating policy into successful practice.
  • Leadership of a significant area or phase, raising standards across a school.
  • Strong team management and collaborative working skills.
  • Effective communication with diverse audiences.
  • Experience managing complex scenarios and working with external agencies.
