About the role:

  • You will be the SENDCO for the secondary phase of the school, working with pupils aged 11-18 with a range of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
  • You will be responsible for developing and implementing the school’s SEN policy and provision, in line with the SEND code of practice and the Equality Act 2010.
  • You will work collaboratively with the senior leadership team, teachers, teaching assistants, parents, carers and external agencies to ensure that all pupils with SEND receive high-quality teaching and support that meets their individual needs and enables them to achieve their full potential.
  • You will coordinate and monitor the progress and attainment of pupils with SEND and evaluate the effectiveness and impact of interventions and support.
  • You will lead and manage a team of teaching assistants and provide training and guidance for staff on SEN issues and best practice.
  • You will maintain accurate and up-to-date records of pupils with SEND and ensure that all relevant information is communicated and shared with appropriate parties.
  • You will apply for additional funding and resources for pupils with SEND and manage the SEN budget.

About you:

  • You have a recognised teaching qualification and QTS, and a National Award for SEN Coordination or working towards it.
  • You have a thorough knowledge and understanding of the SEND code of practice, the Equality Act 2010, and other relevant legislation and guidance.
  • You have experience of working as a SENCo or in a similar role, and of leading and managing a team of teaching assistants.
  • You have experience of working with pupils with a range of SEND, and of using a variety of assessment tools and strategies to identify and plan for their needs.
  • You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, parents, carers and external agencies.
  • You have strong organisational and leadership skills, and the ability to work under pressure and prioritise tasks.
  • You have a commitment to continuous professional development and reflective practice.
