Job Title: SEN Teacher – Maternity Cover (September Start)

Location: Loughton, Essex

Contract: Maternity Cover – Full Academic Year

Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

JDS Recruitment is proud to be working in partnership with a specialist SEN school located in the beautiful surroundings of Loughton, Essex – on the edge of Epping Forest and within easy daily reach of London. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced SEN Teacher to join this exceptional school from September to cover maternity leave.

The Role:

This is a full-time maternity cover position teaching a group of mixed Year 3, 4 and 5 pupils who are pre-verbal and have Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering a broad and balanced curriculum, with strong support from a team of trained support staff and on-site therapists.

About the School:

This well-resourced specialist school caters exclusively for pupils with Statements of SEN or EHCPs, focusing on SLD and ASD. Classes are kept small and are structured around pupil needs, enabling highly personalised teaching and a strong focus on developing social skills and independence. Therapeutic support is embedded throughout the curriculum and provided in-class, in groups, or one-to-one.

Essential Requirements:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognised UK teaching qualification
• Proven recent experience teaching SEN pupils within a UK special school setting
• Strong understanding of severe learning needs and pre-verbal communication approaches
• Experience delivering a broad curriculum tailored to individual EHCPs
• Eligible to work in the UK and hold a valid visa

Desirable:

• Additional qualification in Special Educational Needs
• Team-Teach certification
• Experience using communication tools such as PECS, Makaton, or AAC
