Salary: £24,000 - £26,000 FTE - Pro ratered Term time only Job Description:We are seeking a compassionate, proactive, and dedicated SEN Learning Support Assistant to join our inclusive school community. In this vital role, you will support pupils with special educational needs (SEN) in accessing the curriculum and achieving their full potential—academically, socially, and emotionally.Working under the guidance of teaching staff and alongside a multidisciplinary team, you will provide targeted one-to-one and small group interventions tailored to the individual needs of each child. Your support will help create an inclusive classroom environment where all students feel valued, safe, and able to thrive.Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide one-to-one or small group support to pupils with SEN, including those with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and other learning needs.
  • Assist in the implementation of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) by helping to deliver targeted strategies and interventions in line with each pupil’s objectives.
  • Support the development of pupils’ communication, social, and emotional skills, encouraging confidence and positive peer relationships.
  • Use positive behaviour management strategies to support pupils in regulating their emotions and maintaining engagement in learning.
  • Adapt classroom materials and teaching approaches to ensure lessons are accessible and meaningful for all learners.
  • Collaborate closely with class teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and external specialists to monitor progress and refine support plans.
  • Contribute to record-keeping and reporting, maintaining up-to-date notes on pupil development and sharing relevant information with staff and families as appropriate.
  • Foster an inclusive and nurturing learning environment, encouraging independence, resilience, and self-esteem.
Requirements:
  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN in a classroom, care, or support setting.
  • A relevant qualification such as CACHE Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent) is desirable but not essential.
  • A genuine passion for inclusive education and a strong commitment to supporting pupils with additional needs.
  • Patience, empathy, and a calm, nurturing approach, especially in challenging situations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with pupils, staff, and families.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, using initiative while following professional guidance.
  • A good understanding of safeguarding procedures and child protection practices.
