Teaching Assistant – Specialist SEN School (SEMH & Communication Needs)

• Monday, Tuesday, Thursday: 08:45–16:00
• Wednesday: 08:45–16:30
• Friday: 08:45–15:30

Are you passionate about supporting children and young people with complex emotional and communication needs? We’re recruiting for a full-time Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in East Grinstead that provides a therapeutic and nurturing environment for learners aged 7–19. The school’s approach is rooted in holistic development, focusing not just on academic progress, but also on personal growth, wellbeing, and social confidence.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide tailored support to students with social, emotional, and communication difficulties.
• Work closely with teachers to deliver engaging and accessible learning experiences.
• Help maintain a calm and structured classroom environment.
• Assist with lesson preparation, resource organisation, and record-keeping.
• Promote positive behaviour and respectful relationships.
• Uphold safeguarding, health & safety, and school policies at all times.

What We’re Looking For

• Experience working with children or young people with SEMH or SEN
• Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable).
• GCSEs (Grade A–C or equivalent) in English and Maths.
• A current driving licence.
• Strong interpersonal skills and emotional resilience.
• Ability to work collaboratively and flexibly within a team.
• Understanding of trauma-informed practice and inclusive education.
