SEMH Teaching Assistant (KS3/KS4)

?? Location: Lewes, East Sussex?? Hourly Rate: £13.50–£15.50 (subject to qualifications and experience)?? Working Hours: 08:30–16:00 | Term Time Only?? Contract Type: Long-Term | 12-Month Fixed Term

We are currently recruiting on behalf of a specialist school in East Sussex that supports young people with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs. This is a rewarding opportunity to work in a therapeutic setting where education is tailored to meet the individual needs of each pupil.

About the Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you’ll be part of a dedicated team helping pupils re-engage with learning through a highly personalised curriculum. Lessons are delivered in small groups or 1:1, with a strong focus on emotional wellbeing, vocational skills, and personal development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of a bespoke curriculum designed around individual learning and emotional needs.
  • Create a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils to promote resilience and independence.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and external agencies.
  • Assist with Educational Health Care Plans (EHCP) and contribute to progress tracking.
  • Encourage participation in enrichment activities and celebrate pupil achievements.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience working with children or young people, ideally in an SEN or SEMH setting.
  • A compassionate and patient approach, with strong behaviour management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed practice and safeguarding principles.
  • Relevant qualifications or training in education, youth work, or psychology (desirable).
