We are seeking a skilled and motivated Section Engineer to support the delivery of a critical component of one of the UK’s flagship infrastructure projects on a lucrative contract basis. This is a significant £25 million package, incorporating bulk earthworks, drainage, piling, access roads, car parks, hardstand installation, and pre-track construction. As part of a major joint venture delivering nationally significant rail infrastructure, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and high-quality execution of both enabling works and permanent construction activities.The Role:Our client are looking for a Section Engineer to join them on a lucrative contract basis. You will initially focus on enabling and temporary works, providing essential engineering support to the site team, while ensuring compliance with design, health & safety, and quality standards. As the project progresses, you will transition into supporting permanent works, playing a key role in planning, methodology development, subcontractor management, and stakeholder coordination. Responsibilities:
- Provide engineering support for ongoing site enabling and temporary works
- Act as the key interface between the delivery team and Network Rail representatives
- Produce essential health and safety documentation, including RAMS, WPPs, task briefings, and permits
- Oversee and implement safety-critical processes, including Permit to Dig, Temporary Works coordination, and compliance with standards
- Review scheme drawings, assess constructability, and provide recommendations for permanent works planning
- Collaborate with section teams to develop construction methodologies, sketches, plans, and mobilisation procedures
- Work closely with subcontractors to ensure timely preparation and implementation of RAMS, ITPs, permits, and consents
- Identify temporary works requirements early, ensuring compliance with procedures and technical standards
- Support cross-functional teams including Community Relations, Utilities, and Logistics
- Carry out quality inspections in line with ITPs, completing and submitting documentation to support progressive assurance
- Lead production and presentation of 6-week programmes to management and client representatives, providing progress updates
- Manage supply chain partners to ensure efficient, compliant delivery aligned with safety, environmental, and quality expectations
- Perform ad hoc duties as required to support project success
About You:We’re looking for a driven, detail-oriented professional with:
- Previous experience as a Section Engineer or similar within major infrastructure, rail, or civil engineering projects
- Strong technical knowledge of temporary works, health & safety systems, and construction methodologies
- Ability to interface with Network Rail and other stakeholders effectively
- Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills
- Commitment to delivering safe, high-quality, and efficient project outcomes
