Associate Scientist
  • Location: Cambridge, UK
  • Job Type: Full-time, 6 month-fixed

Reed is proud to partner with a leading biotech innovator focused on developing treatments for rare neurological disorders. This company operates at the intersection of biology, AI, and finance to advance treatments for conditions such as neuro-oncology, genetic epilepsies, and neuropathic pain. They are seeking a motivated Associate Scientist to join their multidisciplinary team based in Cambridge.

Day-to-Day of the Role:
  • Cell Culture and Maintenance:

    • Maintain and passage various cell lines, including tumourspheres and neural progenitor cells.
    • Support 3D culture systems like neurospheres and organoids.
    • Conduct routine quality control tests such as mycoplasma testing.
  • Drug Screening and Validation:

    • Assist in high-throughput drug screening and follow-up assays.
    • Conduct validation experiments for candidate hits using various molecular assays.
  • Preparation of Lentiviral Libraries and Vectors:

    • Perform molecular assays including RNA/DNA extraction, qPCR, and basic cloning workflows.
  • Data Collection and Documentation:

    • Record all experimental procedures and outcomes accurately in an ELN system.
    • Prepare reports and summaries for research meetings.
  • Laboratory Organisation:

    • Manage lab organisation and inventory, including maintaining sample and reagent inventories, restocking consumables, and processing laboratory invoices.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Experience in cell culture techniques, preferably with a background in cancer biology and/or neurobiology.
  • Proficiency in molecular biology methods such as DNA/RNA extraction, qPCR, and basic cloning workflows.
  • Familiarity with lentiviral techniques.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • A creative, curious, and inventive approach to scientific work, combined with rigorous scientific discipline.
  • Strong teamwork skills, embracing diverse viewpoints and valuing the strengths of others.
