Job Description :

A Japanese organisation is seeking a Research Coordinator to join their London office.

You will be responsible for providing business-related support, managing seminars, conducting research on the Global South, and performing other administrative tasks related to project coordination.The ideal candidate will have experience in business support, excellent communication skills, and strong proficiency in Microsoft Office. An understanding of Japanese culture and proficiency in Japanese language in addition to fluent English is essential.

TYPE: Temporary, full-time (fixed - term Temporary contract)

WORKING HOURS: 9:30 - 17:30, Monday to Friday, with 1 hour lunch break

SALARY: c£22 per hour (equivalent to a £40k annual salary) + Holiday pay

START: from the beginning of Aug 2025 to the end of March 2026 (no extension)LOCATION: City of London (5 days office work)

Research Coordinator Main Responsibilities:

  • Provide business-related support, with a focus on events hosted by the Africa Desk
  • Prepare and manage seminars and study sessions
  • Arrange and coordinate interviews with governments, organisations, companies, and experts
  • Build and maintain a network of stakeholders relevant to the Africa Desk and seminar activities
  • Gather information on political, economic, and industrial matters related to the Global South, including Africa
  • Produce various materials based on collected information
  • Create presentations using PowerPoint
  • Draft business news articles, regional reports, and analytical papers
  • Coordinate and attend interviews required for research
  • Liaise with contractors involved in subsidy investigations
  • Handle general administrative duties such as taking minutes, preparing documentation, and managing registration procedures

Research Coordinator Ideal Candidate:

  • Fluent English
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Able to speak Japanese for daily conversations and business meetings, with a reasonable ability to read business-level Japanese
  • Strong understanding of UK society, culture, and business practices, with the ability to build trust with UK companies
  • Flexible, sociable, and cooperative, with excellent communication, summarisation, and language skills
  • Reliable and capable of managing multiple tasks during busy periods
  • Interest in developing country-related business
