Job Description :

Based in Avonmouth, Plant-Ex ingredients in an international company specialising in the manufacture of Natural Food Ingredient Solutions, supplying across the globe either directly through our own facilities or through a number of selected distribution partners. We specialise in spray drying food colourings and flavours as well as production of liquid food colours, flavours and extracts.

Purpose of the role -

The Regulatory Officer is responsible for channelling information into the organisation so that the Technical, Procurement and Innovation teams are aware of the latest updates for ensuring that all food products comply with UK and international legislation, food safety regulations, and internal quality standards.

This role also supports the development, maintenance, and communication of regulatory documentation and provides expert guidance on compliance matters across the business.

Main responsibilities -

  • Monitor and interpret UK, EU, and International food legislation, guidelines, and industry standards.
  • Ensure product compliance with applicable food laws, including labelling (FIC), additive, and allergen regulations.
  • Prepare and review product specifications to ensure legal accuracy and compliance.
  • Liaise with relevant internal teams (NPD, Technical, Procurement) to provide regulatory input throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Communicate regulatory updates and changes across departments and ensure the business is prepared and compliant.
  • Participate in internal and external audits, including BRCGS, customer, and third-party inspections.
  • Maintain accurate records of all regulatory activities, documentation, and approvals.
  • Assist in the investigation and resolution of regulatory-related customer complaints or non-conformances.
  • Represent the company in external forums, industry bodies, or technical working groups as required.
  • Monthly liaison with NPD and Procurement teams to continuously train them in the available resources for regulatory considerations so that they know what needs to be checked and how.

Knowledge, experience, and skills required -

  • 2+ years of experience in a regulatory, technical, or compliance role within the food industry.
  • Working knowledge of UK and EU food law.
  • Experience with specification systems and retail technical portals.
  • Excellent attention to detail, written communication, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to interpret complex legal information and communicate it clearly to non-specialists.
