As a Waste Management Operative, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the community. This position requires flexibility and a commitment to excellence in all weather conditions.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Collect waste and recycling from domestic and commercial properties.
- Empty litter bins and clear litter from public spaces.
- Perform environmental cleansing and grounds maintenance tasks such as weed control, winter salting, and maintenance of green spaces.
- Operate and maintain powered tools, plant, and equipment, ensuring all are in good working condition.
- Provide assistance and directions to the public and report any environmental issues like fly tipping and potholes.
- Assist with container delivery and ensure vehicle safety.
- Support street cleaning operations and participate in campaigns and events as needed.
- Complete daily and weekly records and forms, adhering to Health and Safety policies.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Practical experience in environmental cleansing, horticulture, or grounds maintenance.
- Proficiency in using powered tools and equipment.
- Good communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with the public.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, handling routine issues and prioritising daily tasks.
- NQF Level 2 (e.g., GCSEs Grades 4–9, NVQ Level 2) or equivalent knowledge gained through work experience.
- Full driving licence (3.5 tonnes and trailer towing desirable).
- Good attendance record and flexibility to meet service needs.
