  • Temporary Position
  • Location: Bury, predominantly based at Knowsley Place and Bury Town Hall with requirement to work from other Council buildings and project sites
  • Hourly rate: £35 per hour Umbrella 
  • Length of role: Initial 3 months. 

Bury Council is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join our Housing Services department on a temporary basis. This role is crucial for delivering Quantity Surveying services to support over £16M in planned maintenance for Council Homes, including investments in roofing, kitchens, bathrooms, windows, and doors. The ideal candidate will have technical expertise, the ability to work effectively within a cohesive department, and experience in social housing and contract management.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
  • Prepare estimates and tender documents to deliver investment programmes for the Council’s Housing.
  • Settle final accounts and compile financial reports.
  • Liaise with internal and external clients, tenants, leaseholders, and work colleagues in accordance with professional practice and current legislation.
  • Carry out pre-contract Quantity Surveying duties for Council Housing Capital Programme Schemes and Environmental Projects.
  • Provide budget and detailed estimates, prepare tender documents, and manage the tender process.
  • Carry out post-contract duties including the preparation of monthly final cost forecasts, evaluation of claims, and settlement of Final Accounts.
  • Advise on building costs for external grants and funding.
  • Implement new practices such as Partnering, Contractor/Supplier Frameworks, E-Tendering, and electronic specification writing.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • HND in a relevant area or higher.
  • Professional qualification (e.g., RICS, CIOB, Degree in Building Surveying).
  • Minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience.
  • Demonstrable understanding of local government procedures and statutes.
  • Strong analytical skills to identify improvements in management information.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and experienced in financial management.
