Job Title: Purchasing Manager

Salary: £45,000 - £50,000 per annum

About the Role:

We’re working on behalf of a growing manufacturing business to recruit a commercially minded Purchasing Manager with experience in commodity-based materials.

This standalone role is ideal for someone who thrives on autonomy, knows when to play the market, and is confident managing a £6-7m procurement portfolio. You’ll lead on all purchasing decisions across timber and pallet supply, negotiate supplier terms, and develop purchasing policies that support both operational efficiency and long-term cost savings.

This is a hands-on position requiring a tenacious, detail-driven approach - perfect for someone who wants to take full ownership and make a tangible impact across the business.

Key Responsibilities:

· Take ownership of procurement across timber and associated materials

· Build strong supplier relationships, negotiate commercial terms, and ensure continuity of supply

· Monitor market trends and commodity pricing to make timely, strategic buying decisions

· Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives while maintaining quality and supply

· Develop and formalise procurement policies, reporting processes, and systems

· Work closely with operational and commercial teams to ensure alignment with wider business needs

· Manage stock levels and procurement schedules in line with operational demand

Candidate Profile:

· Proven background in procurement or buying, ideally in timber, packaging, or commodities

· Commercially astute and confident managing market-driven decisions

· Tenacious, organised, and self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously

· Strong relationship builder with excellent negotiation skills

· Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment

· Process-oriented, with the ability to introduce structure and reporting where needed
