St Paul's Cathedral have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Project Manager to lead on events marking the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War and the 60th anniversary of the state funeral of Sir Winston Churchill.
During the Second World War, St Paul’s became renowned as an enduring national symbol of survival and resistance, with Prime Minister Winston Churchill declaring that it should be 'Saved at all costs’. Its remarkable survival was due, in no small part, to the dedication and bravery of the St Paul’s Watch, an extraordinary team of volunteers who worked in shifts day and night to protect the Cathedral from incendiaries and fire. On 30th January 1965, St Paul’s Cathedral hosted the state funeral of Sir Winston Churchill, which was attended by Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The monarch’s presence at a state funeral was unprecedented, and Her Majesty and members of the Royal Family were led in procession to their seats by the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Bishop of London and the Cathedral Chapter. The Churchill Gates were erected in the Crypt to mark the occasion.
2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War and the 60th anniversary of the state funeral of Sir Winston Churchill, which was held at St Paul’s. The Cathedral intends to hold a number of events during the year to mark both of these key anniversaries. These will include, but are not limited to: -
