Salary: £27,264 per annum
ABOUT THE ROLE
- Hold regular 1-2-1 meetings with students from an assigned caseload to discuss well being, academic progress and agree improvement targets
- Deliver workshops to students from your caseload on topics that will support their learning on their chosen course and adaptation to UKHE
- Work across College teams to obtain answers to your students’ questions and gather information on pertinent academic and non academic issues so as to be able to signpost and support students appropriately
- Monitor the academic progress of students in your caseload and identify those in need of intervention
- In collaboration with subject teams, take a proactive approach to student academic intervention
- Provide more intensive, subject specific support to students in your caseload who are at risk of failing to progress or have been given specific improvement targets. This may include:
- Helping students identify areas of weakness or gaps in their knowledge and setting goals to help them improve.
- Supporting students to reflect on their progress and develop self efficacy in relation to their progression goals
- Addressing feedback from tutors who report students are struggling or lack engagement inside or outside of the classroom
- Escalate any students who fail to engage with college processes to the Student Progress Lead
- Provide feedback and information on students from your caseload to the Student Progress Lead for consideration at cross college intervention meetings
- In collaboration with colleagues across the college, provide additional support to students with additional learning needs or disabilities
- Complete meeting records timely and accurately
- Provide advice and support to students in your case load that will help alleviate any mental health concerns triggered by academic factors, such as anxiousness or poor sleep patterns brought on by heavy workloads or exam stress
- Ensure more serious welfare concerns are passed to relevant colleagues in a timely manner with all relevant information
- Where appropriate, be a point of contact for students in your caseload that are closed welfare cases or awaiting appointments with external services
- Monitor the attendance of your students who have been issued attendance warnings and intervene if this doesn't improve
- Ensure students in your caseload are engaged with college and Study Group related progression policies
- Promote and support the selection of Student Representatives and Ambassadors within your caseload
- Support the delivery of Induction Week activities where they are relevant to the Progress Coach role
- Contribute to the development of the Progress Coach page of the VLE
ABOUT YOU
- An understanding of the challenges faced by students attempting to enter University education
- Experience and understanding of compliance requirements in an academic setting
- Experience of working with international students
- Experience of using and developing a Virtual Learning Platform
- Teaching experience or ability to deliver information in an engaging and confident manner
- Proven ability to spark a change in behaviour or attitude of disengaged learners
- Cross cultural understanding
- -Experience of providing academic and/or pastoral support to students or young adults in a 121 or small group setting
- -Degree level qualification, relevant subject knowledge at undergraduate level or equivalent experience
- -The ability to communicate effectively by adapting the delivery of the message to the recipients
- -Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office and Google suite
- - compassionate outlook/ emotional intelligence/empathy/patience
- -The ability to take an empathetic and patient approach in addressing challenges and areas of weakness of the students in your caseload
