Job Description :

An exceptional opportunity has arisen for a Professional Liability and Insurance Lawyer, to join a highly respected international law firm based in London. This role offers you the chance to make a meaningful impact within a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive environment that values empathy, clarity, and genuine connection.

You will be part of a dedicated team responsible for managing legal risk across the business, with a particular focus on professional liability, insurance matters, claims, and regulatory compliance. The firm is committed to responsible business practices, diversity, and flexible hybrid working arrangements, ensuring you can thrive both professionally and personally. If you are passionate about delivering outstanding client service while contributing to an organisation that prioritises the wellbeing of its people and communities, this is the perfect next step in your career.

What you'll do:

As a Professional Liability and Insurance Lawyer, you will play an integral role in safeguarding the firm's reputation by managing professional liability claims, addressing client complaints with care, supporting insurance processes, and ensuring robust compliance with regulatory standards.

Your day-to-day activities will involve close collaboration with senior leaders in the risk legal team as you investigate claims, prepare responses to clients, liaise with external bodies such as the Legal Ombudsman, and support internal investigations. You will also contribute to insurance renewals and notifications while maintaining meticulous records of all ongoing matters. Success in this position requires not only technical expertise but also excellent interpersonal skills; your ability to communicate difficult messages sensitively will help foster trust both internally and externally.

By taking responsibility for seeing matters through to completion or resolution, you will help maintain high standards of client service while upholding the firm's core values of integrity, respect, inclusivity, and delivery focus.

  • Assist the Head of Professional Liability with the reporting and management of claims related to professional liability and insurance matters.
  • Investigate client complaints thoroughly and draft clear, well-reasoned responses that reflect the firm's values of empathy and clarity.
  • Conduct investigations into claims, handling straightforward cases independently or instructing external counsel for more complex issues as required.
  • Maintain accurate records of all complaints and ensure deadlines are met consistently through diligent tracking systems.
  • Liaise effectively with the Legal Ombudsman to facilitate timely resolution of client concerns.
  • Support the Head of Professional Liability with insurance notifications and renewals by preparing documentation and coordinating with relevant stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the General Counsel on internal investigations as well as regulatory inquiries to ensure compliance with all legal obligations.
  • Provide assistance on contentious matters that may arise between the firm and its suppliers or other third parties.
  • Ensure full compliance with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements including Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) Standards, Regulations, and Principles.
  • Contribute positively to the ongoing development of best practices within the risk legal team by sharing knowledge and supporting colleagues.

What you bring:

  • Qualified lawyer with at least 5-7 years' experience in civil or commercial litigation gained either in private practice or an in-house setting.
  • Demonstrable experience in professional negligence work is highly desirable for this position.
  • Previous involvement in handling claims against solicitors would be considered an advantage.
  • Familiarity with insurance coverage issues relating to professional indemnity or non-professional indemnity risks is beneficial.
  • Proven ability to work independently using your own initiative while remaining responsive to team needs.
  • Excellent communication skills enabling you to articulate complex or sensitive information clearly to colleagues at all levels across the organisation.
  • Resilient approach combined with flexibility in managing changing priorities or unexpected challenges within a busy legal environment.
  • Self-motivated attitude with a track record of taking responsibility for progressing matters through to resolution without close supervision.
  • Experience working within large City or international law firms is desirable but not essential if you bring equivalent expertise from another context.
  • Commitment to upholding high standards of client service alongside integrity, respect for others, inclusivity, strong interpersonal skills, and delivery focus.
