Private Client Tax Manager

Join a dynamic Accountancy Practice based in St Albans as a Private Client Tax Manager. This role offers the opportunity to manage annual compliance work for a diverse portfolio of high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs), including sole traders and partnerships. You will work directly under partners, assisting with planning issues and overseeing the training and supervision of staff.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Handle all aspects of income tax, National Insurance, and capital gains tax, including reviewing PAYE coding notices.
- Review Self-Assessment tax returns prepared by staff, ensuring accuracy before client approval and electronic filing.
- Engage in routine and ad-hoc client liaisons via email, telephone, and face-to-face meetings, covering topics like inheritance tax, income tax, and capital gains tax.
- Assist partners in delivering advisory work, including preparing reports on IHT planning, residence, UK trusts, and business structures.
- Prepare for and attend meetings with both existing and potential new clients, set budgets for follow-up work, and ensure timely completion within budget.
- Correspond with HMRC regarding s9A enquiries and prepare disclosures under the digital disclosure facility.
- Oversee the collation of information needed for tax returns, liaising with third-party professionals and clients.
- Manage routine correspondence and prioritize tasks to meet HMRC deadlines and maintain high standards of client care.
- Handle quarterly billing of clients, including making reserves and updating partners on billing concerns.
- Monitor personal time budgets and chargeability.
- Contribute to internal departmental management meetings and network at events for business development.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Must be CTA qualified with at least 5 years of private client tax experience.
- Strong client-facing skills, comfortable in regular interactions and meetings with clients.
- Excellent organisational skills to manage workloads and meet deadlines effectively.
- Ability to work independently, show initiative in client dealings, and monitor personal time management.
- Proficient in computer skills, including Word, Excel, CCH packages, and SharePoint.
- Strong people management skills and commercial awareness.
