To be successful in this role:

You will be a qualified solicitor in England & Wales with 3-6 years of post-qualification experience in privacy and cybersecurity law.

Other requirements for this role include:

  • Demonstrated expertise in UK data protection and cyber security law, with a proven track record of handling complex legal matters and providing strategic counsel to clients
  • Outstanding academic credentials, including a strong academic record and exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Familiarity with technology industries, government regulation and technology, and the policies and enforcement practices of data protection regulators
  • Preferred experience includes exposure to computer programming, network technologies, database design, and web technologies
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, collaborative team player, enthusiastic, and proactive approach to problem-solving
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and effectively manage multiple priorities while delivering high-quality work under tight deadlines

Job role and responsibilities:

As an associate, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the legal strategies of our clients esteemed clientele and contribute to the evolution of privacy and cybersecurity laws. Key responsibilities for this role include:

  • Provide comprehensive legal advice and strategic guidance to clients on navigating the complex landscape of data protection, cybersecurity, and digital regulatory compliance
  • Tailor solutions to meet the specific needs of clients across various industries, including financial services, high tech, life sciences, Internet of Things (IoT), social networks, connected mobility, and biotechnologies
  • Stay abreast of evolving UK and EU privacy and data protection laws, as well as emerging digital regulatory frameworks such as the Digital Services Act (DSA), Digital Markets Act (DMA), Artificial Intelligence (AI) Act, and Online Safety Act (OSA)
  • Assist clients in understanding and adhering to regulatory requirements, conducting compliance assessments, and implementing effective risk mitigation strategies
  • Represent clients in high-stakes investigations initiated by data protection regulators in the UK, European Union, United States, and other jurisdictions worldwide
  • Handle litigation matters before national courts and the European Court of Justice, advocating on behalf of clients in disputes related to data protection, cybersecurity incidents, and privacy breaches
  • Advise businesses on GDPR and UK GDPR compliance projects, including drafting and implementing privacy policies, data protection impact assessments (DPIAs), and data processing agreements
  • Develop robust governance frameworks to ensure ongoing compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices in data protection and cybersecurity
  • Assist clients in responding to data breaches and cybersecurity incidents with speed and efficiency
  • Provide guidance on incident detection, containment, and remediation, working closely with internal stakeholders and external partners to mitigate risks and minimize the impact on affected individuals and organizations
  • Support clients in navigating privacy and cybersecurity considerations in corporate transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, and strategic partnerships
  • Conduct due diligence assessments, negotiate contractual provisions related to data protection and cybersecurity, and facilitate smooth transitions while safeguarding the interests of all parties involved
