Portfolio PMO Lead - Coventry

Outside IR35 - £600-650

Hybrid working - 1/2 Days per week onsite

A leading Coventry client seeks a Portfolio PMO Lead to ensure compliance with portfolio processes, including risk, financial, resource, reporting, planning, quality assurance, and governance management. The role serves as deputy for the Head of Delivery, supporting operational effectiveness and delivery commitments, and manages escalation processes. Responsibilities include coordinating quality assurance across formal gateways, thematic reviews, and ongoing delivery to drive portfolio improvement.

Managing the Portfolio's meeting structure, ensuring the right actions and decisions are taken at the right time. You will collaborate with the Practice Leadership Team to institutionalise coaching and mentoring practices across the portfolio's project management resources, ensuring an appropriate equilibrium between adherence to compliance requirements and the encouragement of innovation.

Key skills and responsibilities,

  • Extensive experience as a PMO Lead.
  • Strong influencing, organisational, analytical and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively at Executive level
  • Ensure all portfolio risks and issues are effectively identified, managed and addressed across all portfolio projects
  • Leading a monthly portfolio RAID review to drive appropriate management actions and monitor progress.
  • Manage and optimise the schedule of meetings to support the Portfolio Leadership Team, enabling timely decision-making and effective portfolio oversight. This includes:
  • Coordinating and facilitating Portfolio Leadership meetings, covering agenda planning, attendee management, action tracking, and overall meeting administration.
  • Actively gathering feedback and conducting regular retrospectives to continuously refine and improve the meeting cadence.
  • Proven track record in project management (projects >£10m) and PMO roles within large-scale projects, programmes and ideally portfolio offices.
  • Skilled in driving capability enhancements and leading programme delivery aligned with industry trends, methodologies, and knowledge management best practices.
  • Ability to distil complex data into actionable insights.
  • Proficient in reporting, delivering clear, concise and well-qualified delivery updates to key stakeholders.
  • Excellent relationship management skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and confidently challenge when appropriate; significant commercial experience working with external third parties.
  • Holds relevant PMO or project management qualifications (e.g. P3O, MoP).
