Portfolio Manager – Life Sciences

London (with hybrid working available)

QBE is looking for a Portfolio Manager to lead our Life Sciences portfolio - a globally recognised, market-leading offering that spans syndicated and company business. From multinational pharmaceutical risks to cutting-edge medical devices and life science breakthroughs, our portfolio covers a diverse range of large corporate and mid-market clients. As a key member of our International Casualty Senior Leadership Team, you’ll be at the forefront of this portfolio, driving underwriting strategy, mentoring top talent, and delivering technical excellence.

Your new role

  • Lead and Inspire: Drive underwriting excellence and team development through hands-on underwriting and strategic guidance.
  • Shape the Future: Design and deliver the annual business plan, track performance, and adapt strategies to meet our objectives.
  • Innovate and Influence: Introduce fresh ideas to navigate market cycles and ensure our portfolio remains ahead of the curve, from a performance and proposition perspective.
  • Build Impactful Relationships: Engage with brokers, clients, industry bodies, and internal stakeholders to amplify QBE’s presence and influence.
  • Stay Ahead: Monitor market dynamics and ensure our portfolio strategy aligns with broader business objectives.

  • Deep expertise in Life Sciences underwriting with strong technical acumen.
  • Strategic thinker with a proven ability to craft and execute portfolio plans.
  • Capability to analyse and use data for decision making and demonstrate financial acumen.
  • Inspirational leader with a passion for team development.
  • Excellent communicator, decision maker, and negotiator with a collaborative mindset.
