About the role

As a key member of our agile team, you will play a pivotal role in the design and construction of Nominet's cutting-edge Enterprise Platform. This Private Cloud platform will be the cornerstone of our operations and will be responsible for powering vital applications, including our prestigious UK registry.? 

Working closely with a team of talented engineers, you will contribute to the development and deployment of this state-of-the-art platform. With a primary focus on multi-site co-location data centres, Kubernetes container stacks, and integrated service and management solutions, this platform harnesses the power of both public and private cloud systems.? 

As the platform evolves, you will transition from the design phase to the critical stage of managing and operating it in a multi-environment production system, replacing outdated legacy services along the way.? 

By collaborating closely with your fellow Platform Engineers, you will be at the forefront of delivering a best-in-class Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) solution to the entire organization. Your expertise and dedication will contribute directly to the success of our ambitious project and ensure seamless integration of modern technologies and capabilities.?

About you and your experience

  • Proficient in hardware management, including handling hardware racking, vendor coordination, and equipment replacement.? 
  • Skilled in supporting and maintaining enterprise-level VMware environments, encompassing clustering, ESXi, and patch management.? 
  • Possesses a working knowledge of the latest Linux operating systems, equivalent to an RHCE level, with expertise in image building, Linux server fleet management, and adherence to best practices. Familiarity with RedHat network fundamentals.? 
  • Comfortable with the latest enterprise Windows systems, Active Directory, group policy, OS (Operating System) patch management, and possesses some PowerShell knowledge.? 
  • Familiarity with automation methodologies, such as Infrastructure as Code (IaC), with experience in Ansible or equivalent automation tools (e.g., Terraform, Puppet, etc.).? 
  • Proficient in utilizing enterprise-grade monitoring solutions like CheckMK, Zabbix, Nagios, vRealize Operations (vROps), etc.? 
  • Some scripting experience in languages like Python, Perl, or Bash.? 
  • Adheres to ITIL best practices and possesses an understanding of ISO compliance.? 
  • Basic understanding of networking fundamentals, including routing, switching, load balancing, firewalling, TCP/IP stack, subnetting, and LAN separation.? 
  • Awareness and knowledge of enterprise-grade SAN/storage solutions, datastores, and ISCSI.
