Planning Officer - Stockport Council
  • Pay Rate: up to £45ph Umbrella
  • Job Type: Temporary, full-time
  • Contract: 6 months
  • Working Arrangement: 2 office days per week

Stockport Council are looking for Planning Officers to join their Development Management team. The successful candidate will provide technical and professional support, advice, and recommendations in respect of the Council’s development management functions. The position will be handling Minor and Minor/Major Planning Applications.

Day to Day of the Role:
  • Manage a caseload of development management correspondence, applications, appeals, and pre-application enquiries.
  • Undertake technical processing of development applications in line with legislative requirements and Council policy.
  • Carry out consultations, advertisements, and notifications for development applications.
  • Record, analyse, and consider all relevant information for the determination of development applications.
  • Prepare reports and recommendations on applications, including draft conditions and reasons.
  • Provide advice and support to the public, media, Council departments, agents, applicants, third parties, and Council Members.
  • Support clerical staff with administrative, technical, and professional aspects of development management work.
  • Assist with enforcement issues to ensure compliance with Council decisions and policies.
  • Contribute to the preparation of publicity materials, design briefs, policies, and supplementary guidance notes.
  • Attend Council committee meetings and provide advice on development management issues.
  • Maintain professional competence in the field of Town Planning.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Degree in Town Planning or related field with postgraduate planning qualification.
  • Chartered Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) or working towards it.
  • Experience with a varied caseload of planning application types.
  • Ability to manage conflicting demands and prioritise under pressure.
  • Experience with political issues in development management.
  • Proficiency in computer packages (e.g., Microsoft Windows, Word, Outlook).
  • Ability to write clear, concise reports.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of legislation relevant to Development Management and the Planning System.
  • Ability to understand and interpret plans and drawings.
  • Negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Collaborative work approach with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Valid UK driving licence and use of a car for work.

Salary : 40 - 45
