Payroll Specialist

Location: Split between Stamford & Peterborough (4 days in office)

Salary: Up to £36,000 per annum

Benefits: 30 days holiday bank holidays | Local Government Pension | £1,300 annual mileage allowance

The Opportunity

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced payroll professional to step into a role with real responsibility and impact. You’ll take full ownership of a large and complex monthly payroll for up to 1,300 employees, while also leading and developing one direct report.

The Role

As Payroll Specialist, you’ll oversee the end-to-end payroll cycle, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery every month. You’ll also:

• Act as the first point of contact for payroll queries, providing clear and supportive guidance.
• Ensure all statutory requirements are met, including PAYE, NI, pensions, and deductions.
• Work closely with your direct report, offering support and guidance to help them develop their skills.
• Contribute to process improvements and system updates to make payroll even more efficient.

What We’re Looking For

We’re keen to speak with candidates who have:

• Proven experience managing payroll at scale.
• Strong technical knowledge of payroll legislation, pensions, and statutory payments.
• Great attention to detail with the ability to meet strict deadlines.
• A collaborative style, with the confidence to engage colleagues at all levels.
• Some people management experience (or the ambition to step into this for the first time).
