We're looking for a confident and detail-oriented Payroll Manager to join our team on-site in Newport, working closely with our Payroll Coordinator to deliver accurate, compliant, and efficient payroll services.

About the Role:
As Payroll Manager, you'll be responsible for end-to-end payroll processing - from gross to net - for our monthly payroll. You'll ensure compliance with all statutory regulations, maintain payroll accuracy, and play a key role in the administration of expenses and benefits.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone with a solid grounding in payroll, great Excel skills, and a keen eye for detail.
Key Responsibilities:
Payroll Processing:
- Manage monthly payroll cycles (gross to net) accurately and on time
- Process salaries, bonuses, overtime, and statutory deductions (PAYE, NI, student loans, etc.)
- Handle new starters, leavers, and changes to employee records
- Reconcile payroll data and resolve discrepancies
Pensions & Auto-Enrolment:
- Administer Auto-Enrolment pension scheme
- Submit pension contributions and liaise with providers
- Maintain pension records for compliance and auditing
Accounting:
- Perform payroll reconciliations and process payroll journals
- Support month-end and year-end payroll reporting
- Ensure accuracy of payroll-related accounting entries
Expenses & Benefits:
- Administer employee expenses in line with company policy
- Manage benefits such as private medical, relocation, and company cars
- Ensure timely and accurate P11D and PSA reporting
- Manage taxation and reporting of RSUs
Compliance & Reporting:
- Ensure compliance with HMRC regulations, IR35, SSP, SMP, etc.
- Manage Gender Pay Gap reporting
- Submit FPS, EPS, and all statutory payroll reports
- Keep up-to-date with UK payroll legislation
System & Data Management:
- Use and maintain Civica People Hub for payroll processing
- Ensure payroll data accuracy and confidentiality
Stakeholder Management:
- Be the go-to person for payroll queries from staff and management
- Collaborate with HR, Finance, and external providers (e.g. HMRC, pension providers)
About You:
Experience:
- 3-5+ years in a Payroll Manager or Senior Payroll Officer role
- Strong experience with Auto-Enrolment pension schemes
- Proven end-to-end payroll processing experience
- Background in payroll-related accounting (journals, reconciliations)
Skills:
- Advanced Excel (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, data analysis)
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving ability
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Able to work under pressure and manage competing deadlines
Desirable:
- Experience using Civica People Hub and Workday
- CIPP qualification (advantageous, not essential)
